Actually, stuff like this gives me hope as i grew up drawing tons of line work like this. More emphasis on details created through pencil/pen lines and such. I am more of a "traditional" comic style artist with some inspiration from anime/manga. And while i have extensive knowledge of PS, and got into it pretty early (my friends a photographer)  i am not nearly on some of the "professional" photoshop artist level. So sometimes i feel like i am outmatched in the digital paiting realm since i cant do the "photorealistic" stuff and i honestly have no interest in that realm. Its not to see that the judges have variation in taste, and there is some perceptive taking place when work is being judged upon.

If you are indeed a "little guy" then you have learned a valuable lesson in all of this. The winner isnt decided till the winner is decided. Meaning, its not always obvious who deserves to win, and who doesnt. Art is highly subjective, and there isnt one way of accomplishing beautiful art.

I know this is kinda late. But i am entering contest too, and seem hopelessly outmatched. Still, maybe one day i will be able to put my old-school style to some use, for someone.

Take care.

Aww, Thank-you for this wonderful comment, I had a rough day!

I love traditional comic style, :D I hope you do super well in the future and promote that style more! & Yes I find it FAR more interesting then photorealism too!

I love comic/manga styled art, some of the most amazing artists I've ever seen 'in my opinion' draw these styles and are so underrated compared to those who can do photorealism. I'm no where near as skilled as the pros- but I try to show my 'love' of the art-form in my works and really do try.

It is wonderful knowing that there is some people who can see it for the skill it does take- and not have some highly ignorant opinion that somehow it is a "lesser-art style' and 'super easy' like many people on Deviantart who have voiced their opinion to me. But hey there are always going to be people like that in ever aspect of life :/ boo.

Keep going with what you enjoy most :> It seems there are still people out there who appreciate it and even us little guys can surprise the big-timers! xD

100% agree !
Glad i can pass on the good vibes.
Growing up, my heroes were artist like jim lee, marc silvestri, and j.scott campbell.
I actually got to meet the later. And jim lee is head of DC creative, and living the big time, redesigning our childhood (new52) and even videogames. So us "lowly" line artist might have a chance at redemption just yet ;)

Thanks for the inspiration !
